The problem of space, one of the principal categories of scenography and theatre generally, is considered in the paper. It is a concrete and active theatrical material, like actors. Since 20th century a tendency of combination of spaces of the scene and hall has been noted. Scenographic space involves both of them creating a new unit of art – the performance space. Like architecture, dramaturgy has also great visual and psycho-physiological effects based on the peculiarities of space building, which gives ground to the above described process. Human being on the stage as well as in the hall is the only orientation and measure for the artist, independently of the epoch and interrelation between the spaces of the theatre.
