In Memory of the Scholar Caucasologist

ANATOLIY GENKO
(1896–1941):

This paper submitted by scholars from St.-Petersburg, Moscow and Grozny sheds light on unknown details in tragic life and prominent research activities of the well-known Russian scholar Anatoliy Nesterovich Genko (1896–1941). It includes three short essays showing Genko's contribution in linguistics, social anthropology, Oriental studies as branches of Caucasian studies, unpublished archival files and memories about last years in the life of the scholar, his two arrests in 1938 and 1941 and death in the NKVD prison in Leningrad in the beginning of the World War II. Archival materials are presented for publication by the daughter of the scholar G.A. Genko. In addition, the complete bibliography of Genko's published and unpublished works as well as his speech about his teacher Prof. N.Ya. Marr is first published.
