Numerous efforts of dating the Tlia necropolis were undertaken by researchers both in Georgia (B. Tekhov, L. Pantskhava, Yu. Voronov, etc.) as well as abroad (G. Kossak, A. Prus). The persistent interest in this monument is due to its exceptionally rich evidence and stratigraphic data, enabling the archaeologists to take it as a standard while dealing with problems of periodization of the related cultures of the Caucasus.
The present paper is one more attempt at dating the Tlia complexes containing fibulae.
We have distinguished four typological-chronological groups in the Tlia necropolis complexes with fibulae (in total 154 complexes, 135 bronze fibulae have been found along with 33 iron fibulae). The sequence of these groups is due to changes of material and weapon types. Retrospective decomposition of the complexes (based on well dated parallel finds), gave an opportunity of fixing the absolute chronology.
