The Dichotomy "East-West" in V. Nabokov's Autobiography

As it is known, in autobiographical proze of V.Nabokov we can see the influence of symbolism s creative directions. In the autobiography "The Other Shores" this influence is as the line of the world outlook, and also in poetic-figurative sense. Especially we should fix the moments of rapprochement author's world outlook in "The Other Shores" with esthetical and philosophic positions of "Yang symbolists". These positions were about human person's connection with the world substance as a harmonic unity, which is similar with sights of German romantics. The aspirations for highest ideal, spiritual point we can see in the picture of author's life in action. The popular opinion of presence in art prose of Nabokov the theme of "lost heaven" which especially bright is reflected in his Russian novels, in "The Other Shores" is transformed to picture of ideal life, made in style of classic Russian literature. ( I. Goncharov, I. Turgenev, L. Tolstoy), but inside it is full of that spiritual maximalism, which we can read in "young symbolist's" creation.

The level analysis of "The Other Shares" poetics brings to light the presence inside the text the motives and themes, which go back to the A. Belyi's novel "Peterburg". In the line of moments of similarity the special place has the representation of reality of special historical process, which consists whole legacy of "Peterburg", "west" period in Russian history". The human destinies, which fill the myth of author's childhood - are the obvious displaying of tragic insoluble contradictions inside their personalities; the contradiction, which reflects the historical schedule of "Peterbug", which reflects the historical schedule of "Peterburg" period in Russian history. In these people the "west" and "east" beginnings, mixing created the special culture phenomenon: which did met give the possibility to save the ideal world, where lined the heroes of autobiography, from the pernicious history's cataclysms.

The personality, about what was written the autobiography, is standing in the center of memoirs narration, also is inside the action of these oppositions. The history of author's relations with Tamara symbolically is perceived not only as the love story, but also as the some metaphor of the and of some line of that personality's type, which is in the center of attention in autobiography - the Russian intellectual European.
