The work studies the history of origin and development of the Georgian democratic periodical press of the 2^nd half of the 19^th – beginning of the 20^th centuries, its exclusive role in development of the social democratic thought.

Scientific analysis of the articles published in the Georgian democratic press of the studied period allow us to conclude that the prominent writers and public men standing at the head of newspapers and magazines, were carrying out consecutive fight through the periodical press for solving many actual problems of the contemporary time.
