The place of action, as the literary method, created the emotional and ethic atmosphere in work of literature, which have an influence on hero's action. Sometimes it even can to dominate in work of literature, and becomes its main or one of main heroes.

We have supplemented the row of images-masks of Peterburg in literature (Pushkin, "The Brazen Rider") "The Queen of Spades", Gogol, "The Nevski Prospect", Dostoyevsky "An Idiot") by the mask of Peterburg in A. Belyi's novel "Peterburg". The town governs the people, helps to open the inside-world of heroes.

The main hero in Belyi's creativity is also Moscow ("Kotik Letaev", "Moscow Under the Blow"). Belyi appease the row of Moscow's masks, which will be spreaded in literature in the middle and in the end of XX century (Bulgakov "The Master and Margarita", V. Erofeev "Moscow-Petushki").
