Tsqarostavi Monastery, founded in the 9th century, is located in historical Klarjeti (now part of Turkey). The earliest data on the church can be found in the study by N. Marr (1904). The church was fairly damaged already at that time. At present, the monument is ruined. D. Khoshtaria made a reconstruction of the church plan and longitudinal sections by using the existing materials and the data contained in N. Marr's work. The drawings show a single-nave church topped by the dome. The given composition reveals features of the Kuppelhalle type. It seems obvious that the church had been built not later that the 9th century, which is indicated by the use of roughly treated materials and large blocks for the masonry, and smooth planes for faŠ·ade decoration. Certain peculiarities of the architectural composition suggest further evidence supporting the above-mentioned dating.
