The Problem of Protection of Rare and Disappearing Types of Geometras (Lepidoptera: Geometridae) in Georgia

The negative impact of irrational economy on the natural resources has been the most vivid during the last years: most types and species of fauna and flora are diminished. The article presents aerologic data on 443 species of Lepidoptera and Geometridae fauna in Georgia. The investigation showed that 101 species of 443 are relict (3), endemic (90), rare and disappearing (8). The list of 11 species the preservation of which we consider very important for the stability in nature was developed. They are: Apocolotois smirnovi, Eupithecia nigritaria, Odontognophos zacharia muscosaria, Gnophos annubilata darashma, Enthephria ignorata, Scotopteryx miljanowskii, Stamnodes depeculata narzanica, Trichodezia haberhaueri, Megalicinia scalaria, Gnophos ciscaucasica, Alcis caucasica. They are included into the "Red Book of Georgia".
