Words Containing "Remainders" with the Second Component – berry

Word-formation teaching is one of the important questions in linguistics. Any linguistic practical or theoretical purpose is aimed at providing the student with practice of analysing words. Doing such work learners of English get additional information about the creation of words and word-structure.

It is known that the word of language is a complex phenomenon. The morphemic analysis of words possess such segments which don't associate with meaning or function and have no full morphemic status. In linquistics they are called "unique morphemes" or "remainders". There are different methods of the segmentation of words and analysis of word-structure.

The theoretical base of the given research is associative theory of word-structure and definitive analysis worked up by professor E. Shubin and other linguists. According to analysis there are above 1500 words with remainders in present-day English which are divided into 6 structural types and 17 main classes.

Our purpose is to describe words containing "remainders" with the second component –berry presented by the formula [R + NC]. According to the given formula "remainder is marked by the sign R and associative component is marked by NC. The words with remainders have been taken from the Oxford English Dictionary on Historical Principles (12 vol.).

On analysing words learners of English develop their logic thinking, solve problems connected to word-formation and deepen the knowledge of English.
