Georgian Societies in Moscow in the Second Half of the 19th Century and at the Beginning of the 20th Century

In the second half of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century Georgians living in Moscow founded three societies: "Georgian Students' Friendly Association at the Moscow Imperial University", "The Society of Georgia in Moscow" and "The I. Chavchavadze Amateur Circle Investigating Georgian Culture at the Moscow Imperial University". These three societies made a valuable contribution to the training of the national personnel in various spheres of science and technique, the preservation of national consciousness of the Georgians living in Moscow, the increase of interest of the Russian society in the history and culture of the Georgian people. The pledge of success of their activities was due to selflessness, unanimity, and mutual aid existing between the leaders and members, the high level of the organization of the activities, thought-out structure, the means and ways that had been chosen by them for achievement their object, and also the well-wishing attitude to the Russian society.

Undoubtedly the positive experience of the organization of these societies will help greatly the leaders and members of over 20 Georgian societies functioning in Moscow at present to increase the efficiency of their noble activities.
