The imitation attributes is a major way of musical development and at the same time is a leading base of form and genre in polyphonic music, such as: fugue, fuguetta, fugato, canon, and invention.
Without doubt, the role of imitation is great in polyphonic music; however, it is used to a great extent in a homophonic works as well. Both canon-form and canon-techniques (mainly dual completes and incomplete imitations) are present in various forms in works of different genres of famous Georgian composer A. Shaverzashvili: in symphonies, operas, vocal-symphonic works, concerts, and chamber ensembles.
The article analyzes various examples of this technique with a regard of its concrete artistic content, form, and composition.
