For the Study of Georgian Theatrical Decorative Art of the Twenties of the 20th Century

1920-ies is the most significant stage among the periods of the development of Georgian theater. This period is communicated with the name of the director K. Marjanishvili. Decorative art, as the independent sphere is connected with the activity of namely this director. Artistic decoration of K. Marjanishvili's plays were made by the painters such as V. Sidamon-Eristavi, D. Kakabadze, E. Akhvlediani, L. Gudiashvili as well as Ir. Gamrekeli and P. Otskheli who led their activity only in the theaters.

At that period the reconstruction of the whole stage area was in progress, the range of space means and possibilities were expanded, diverse decoration systems were interfused.

The role of K. Marjanishvili and the painters working with him is very important thanks to the fact that in the period of formation and development of Georgian decorative art they managed to solve the most important problem – to give the modern and simultaneously national character to the scenography.
