Tendency to Monotheism

In the work, on the example of different worships is considered a significant process in the life of the late-ancient period, which was expressed in the tendency to monotheism (both male and female divinities were subjected to merging). The widespread in the basin of Mediterranean coast epithet ’'Υψιστος which was used for designation of such called supreme Deity, is analyzed as well.

As a result of study author comes to a conclusion, that tendency to monotheism is one thing, but the breaking all connections with paganism and recognition of the one supreme Deity – is absolutely other. In spite of the tendency to monotheism no case of monotheism germination on the basis of polytheism was noted in the late-ancient period.
