K. Stockhausen on a Musical Sound

The II half of the 20th century presents an epoch of musical experiments. "New music" not only led to inventing new methods of organizing musical material, but also "discovered" a new world of a musical sound, causing revaluation of its concept. Hence, the sound as the musical material underwent intense modification. The most valuable contribution to this process was made by the German composer, one of the leaders of "New music" – K. Stockhausen. The experiments and researches led him to inventing a new "electronic" sound, which resulted in the birth of electronic music. This event of immense historical importance determined, to a certain extant, the subsequent development of music and the musical sound.

The article is based on Stockhausen's thoughts and statements, aiming at acquainting readers with the "new" sound. It will also give them opportunity, to trace back the history of the musical sound and to look in its inner world.
