The early 13th c. wall painting of the St. Nicholas church at Kintsvisi, (East Georgia) is an outstanding work of the medieval Georgian art. Along with the portrait of Queen Tamar , the painting is famous for its coloring, based on the deep blue lapis lazuli in connection with rich green and shining white with small but expressive insets of cinnabar red. The combination of colors is determined by their symbolic meaning, that played important role in the theology and aesthetics of the Christian East.
