The Main Trends of the Georgian Poetry of the 1970's

The 1970's is one of the turning points in the 20th century Georgian poetry. This is the period when a demolition of the stereotypes, which has started since the 1950's, becomes more vivid. In the lyrical poetry, the most intricate inward life of a person, an individual, is shown in a profound manner. A lyrical hero gains more freedom and candidness. In the 1970's, the national themes, especially the eternal problem of an individual - the essence of life and death, are expressed with a new capacity. New generation sets a glaring example of the Georgian poetry of this period. However, the role of older generation is also very important. This is proved by the poetry of M. Machavariani, M. Lebanidze, A. Kalandadze, M. Kvlividze, M. Potskhishvili and others.
