The research work pertains to the documents issued by international organizations and corresponding Georgian agencies that are related to organizing, shaping and preserving of library collections. The research discusses the provisions that are especially important from the view point of preserving collections and gives interpretation and assessment of such provisions. The work also contains general characteristic and analysis of the current state. It is very important to identify those problems that create impediments to the improvement of the situation.
