In 1879 the "Society of spreading of literacy among the Georgians" was established. From the first day of its establishment the Society started the publishing of books. In the printing production main place had pedagogical, text-books, reading books for schools, ecclesiastic and parochial colleges.

The society had published 256 books (1879-1927). Most of these books are of pedagogical sphere and are also the translated literature from Russian.

In pedagogical literature prevails text-books of Iacob Gogebashvili the publication of which were reprinted many times.
