Biblical Metaphor and its Representation Forms

The present paper describes a biblical metaphor as the unit embedded in Christians' cognition. A biblical metaphor-the result of biblical perception of the world, on the verbal level is represented by the units belonging to different levels of the language. Consequently, in the language system they may function as word-biblicisms, idiom-biblicisms, phraseologism-biblicism, proverb-biblicisms, aphorism-biblicisms etc. Biblical expressions, differing from each other in formal structure, are widely used in Christian languages. They can be described from syntactic, semantic and pragmatic, stylistic and lexicological viewpoints. All these units are characterised by transferred meaning and therefore, are used for placing a great emphasis on the said.

Apart from this, a biblical metaphor, represented in the form of direct or indirect allusions, can serve as the basis of any literal text. Such examples are very common and usual for the literary texts of Christians.
