In the dictionary of Georgian slang we have a following lexical unit - Khipish. The dictionary presents the meaning of this word - quarrel, scandal. Unfortunately in the dictionary there are no data on an origin of the given slangy lexical unit. In opinion of the author of clause, the above-mentioned slang is borrowed from so-called Russian criminal vocabulary. In the Russian criminal vocabulary we can found out the same word Khipish - quarrel, scandal. The given lexical unit represents a phonetic variant of Jewish word Khipish It was actively used among the Jewish population of Odessa. This is the Yiddish word and means canopy, under which stood newly married, during the wedding ceremony. Word Khipes, more exactly its slangy variant meant a certain criminal action, during which unlucky young man was enticed in the apartment by young woman. At the necessary moment in a room there was an imaginary husband of the young woman. The husband kicked up a row and got money from the unlucky visitor. Khipish from Russian criminal vocabulary has passed at first in the Georgian criminal dictionary and then already, if it is possible so to be expressed, in the general slangy lexicon.
