Towards the Origin of One Georgian Slang

The Georgian slang is poorly studied. "The dictionary of the Georgian slang" under L. Bregadze's edition was published several years ago. Unfortunately in the above-mentioned dictionary the data of an origin of slang is not presented. The origin or etymology of the slang is also interesting as history of literary words of studied language.

The article presents the etymology of the Georgian slang "ramsi" (georg. ramsi aeria means - something has mixed, either has confused, or has got confused). According to the author's opinion this word occurs from gambling - Rams. This game was popular in Russia in the 19th century. In Russian so-called criminal vocabulary there is the term Рамсить, i.e. to play cards. Though it is difficult to define when and how there was a loan of the given word, and to specify the reasons of semantic change of an event in the Georgian slangy vocabulary.
