Reflection of Mythological Archetypesin James Joyce's Novel "A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man"

J. Joyce's novel "A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man" is considered to be an autobiographical novel, reflecting the author's alter ego as he passes through different vital stages such as childhood, college, family problems, loss of faith, determination to leave his Homeland and decision to become an artist. The fact that main themes in fiction are connected with mythological archetypes, finds its reflection in the use by the author of themes from Ovid's "Metamorpho- ses",Greek, Biblical and Egyptian mythologies that reflect stages of his inner development of the main character and his passage through different vital stages.
