Computing Experiment in an Excel on an Example of the Solving of Transcendental Equations

The tasks of natural scientific disciplines frequently are often reduced to the type of transcendental equations, the solving of which is connected to the large calculations. In general, for the solving of such equations the graphic or numerical methods are used. However, first, solving of the equation by a graphic way - is rather labour-consuming, secondly, the answer is not absolutely exact. In practice it’s necessary to calculate the result of the task exactly. There is use of numerical methods. In both cases the result of the solved equation approximate and at the same time, as was marked above, it is necessary to perform difficult calculations.

Modern information technologies releases us from difficulties connected with calculations, it gives opportunity to do an experiment for receiving the result with desirable accuracy.

Thus, today the process of solving of the equations with the help of both graphic, and numerical method, is considerably simplified.

In this work the use of a method of division of a piece in half-and-half for finding of a root of transcendental equation with the help of spreadsheets is illustrated on an example of a task of an applied type.

During solving of the equations, and also for lots of tasks of algorithmic character the use of spreadsheets represents a compromise direction, which unites an "algorithmic" and "consumer" direction in computer science.
