Announcement

O. Lordkipanidze

At dawn of May 19, 2002 Dr. Otar Lordkipanidze left us for the future life.

Dr. Lordkipanidze was a time-honoured scholar, archaeologist and historian, a full member of Georgian Academy of Sciences, Director of the Centre for Archaeological Research, Professor of Tbilisi State University and a member of various foreign academies, institutes, scientific societies and editorial boards.

The mournful news of Dr. Lordkipanidze's dismal end spread in a flash all over Georgia and archaeological societies of the World. This event was regarded as a remarkable disappearence of the main axis around which all the significant tendencies of humanitarian thought were accumulated. Such, for instance, are "Science Without Borders", "General Scientific Dialogue", and "Direct Interchange of Considerations".

Archaeology was that second main life for Dr. Lordkipanidze that had been granted to him by the Omnipotent Creator. It was the world of free thought for him. While training and forming the new generation of scholars, he always strove for bringing up all capabilities of his students, and did his best in paving the way for their free development.

Dr.  Lordkipanidze devoted himself to research of the Ancient World and as if his early death symbolised the essence of that World in which death was perceived not as the end of life but was believed to be one of its mysterious stages.
