The article briefly considers political situation in Adjara in the first quarter of the 20 th century that was already highlighted in special scientific and archive materials and mass media of that period. An important role of press in strengthening consciousness of Georgian population in Adjara is underlined. Though, numerous impediments that nationally oriented mass media faced were also reflected. Further, the article stresses efforts of a big patriotic group that despite active involvement of Russia or Turkey, local pro-Russian or pro-Turkish forces, continued to struggle for its main goal -inseparability of Adjara with Georgia.
