Conquest of the North-West Caucasus by Russia

The article considers the basic stages of conquest of North-west Caucasus by Russia in the XVI-XVII centuries against the background of complex mutual relations of Russia with the protégés of Turkish sultanate - Crimean and Kazan khanates. Cherkesian embassy to a court yard of Russian king Ivan IV with request for protection becomes a basic point to a gain of the Northern Caucasus up to the middle of the XIX c.
