Interest is a significant virtue of a person, which defines his avtivity and is a pledge of successful realization of the educational process. The article reviews the interpretations of concept of interest by W. James, J. Selly, K. Izard, D. Uznadze etc. The issue of correlation of interest and need is analysed. That is allocated common and various, which is characteristic for them.
