On the History of Formation of the Georgian Press Language

The language of publicism (the press) is part of the prose language. Therefore the study of the consequences of the Russian language influence on the Georgian press language is of great significance for the ascertainment of the natural development of the Georgian prose language.

The article deals with the consequences of the Russian language influence on the language of the Georgian newspapers of the twenties of the 19th century "Sakartvelos Gazeti" ("Kartuli Gazrti").

It has been discovered that the press language of the given period is characterized by the same features which are typical of the Georgian non-fiction prose (epistolary, travel genres).

In the press language Russian loan-words and word-combinations formed under the Russian influence have been corroborated.

Today the problem of the Russian loan-words is not actually for the Georgian language. The literary language has expulsed them from its lexical stock which can't be said about the word-combinations of the Russian origin (i.e. Russian loan-translations).
