Recent architectural interventions into urban fabric of Old Tbilisi had been targets of fierce criticism from conservationists and general public, creating as a result a fear of any intervention at all. Some examples of modernist architectural developments in city centres of Paris, Prague and Berlin are reviewed favorably and their example is set against the over-cautious approach to the Tbilisi center, which is said to lack truly good modern buildings.
