A number of remains of the Antique period structures have been discovered in last few decades in Georgia. Majority of those sites (buildings) is dated with high level of certainty. But regarding functional interpretation scholars expressed controversial opinions. In the essay are shown many cases when authors expressing their reservations on functional interpretation of some discovered structures and sites (Qumbati, Tsikhia Gora, Dedoplis Mindori, Uphlistsikhe, Armaziskhevi, Bagineti Dzalisi).
The same is true for some site of the Ancient Near East of Achaemenian, Seleucid and Parthian periods. For example different opinions are expressed about Ayadana near Susa, tour structures Naksh-i Rustam and Takht-i Suleiman, Persopolis, Takht-i Sangin, Square Hall in the Old Nisa, Mansur Depe.
I would argue that current situation in Georgian archaeology and history of architecture reflects general situation of the Near Eastern Archaeology. Once more facts show how limited is our knowledge and for understanding and correct functional interpretation there is obvious need in farther studies.
