gateway - 1. An opening or a structure framing an opening, such as an arch, that may be closed by a gate. 2. Something that serves as an entrance or a means of access: a gateway to success; the gateway to the West. 3. Software or hardware that enables communication between computer networks that use different communications protocols. Also called router2 (sense 3).
A gateway refers to hardware or software that bridges the gap between two otherwise incompatible applications or networks so that data can be transferred among different computers. Gateways are common with e-mail that gets sent back and forth between Internet sites and commercial online services (like America Online) that have their own internal e-mail systems. ; дс тдрлими цюлютдажкию дроемжки аиакиохдйис лидр http://www.bartleby.com/61/90/G0059000.html ;
