access authorization - 1) The process of granting or denying access to a network resource. Most computer security systems are based on a two-step process, sometimes more. The first stage is authentication, which ensures that a user is who he or she claims to be and in some cases, that the user is not already on the system. The second stage is authorization, which allows the user access in varied degrees to various resources based on the preassigned privileges associated with the user's identity.
2) In computing, an individual username, password, PIN, or other access code issued to a person who is allowed to use a specific electronic resource, application program, network, or other system, which must be entered correctly in order to log on. A single authentication may have multiple authorizations. ;
