network address - (n.) The network portion of an Internet Protocol (IP) address, which varies by the class of network in the following way:
∙ Class A network: The first byte of the IP address.
∙ Class B network: The first 2 bytes of the IP address.
∙ Class C network: The first 3 bytes of the IP address.
In all cases, the remaining portion of an IP address is the host address. Assigned Internet network addresses are globally unique.
