Lagidze graduated from Tbilisi State Conservatory (composition class, teacher Meliton Balanchivadze). He is an author of many musical works: Lela (1973), a musical comedy Friends (1951), Komble (1957), a symphonic poem Homeland (1949), many song-cantatas for a chorus,  pieces for piano and cello; his songs (Simgera Tbilisze, Patsatsina Samotkhe, Guli Mgeris) are very popular among Georgian and foreign listeners. Lagidze was an author of music scores for plays and feature films.


Lagidze was teaching at Pushkin Tbilisi Pedagogical Institute; later, he was Head of the Chair of Music at the same institute. In 1964, he became a professor of Tbilisi State Conservatory chamber ensemble. For his fruitful work, Lagidze was awarded with USSR State Prize (1977) and Rustaveli State Prize (1975).
