He graduated from Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Arts in 1931. He taught at the Academy from 1936. In 1944, he became a professor; in 1942-48, Japaridze was Rector of the Academy. In 1951-72, he was elected President of the Georgian Painters’ Union. Japaridze was a representative of the realist painters. The major motif of his paintings is people’s life; he also fruitfully worked as a portraitist. He created monumental wall paintings on historical topics. His works are stored in state museums and private collections both in Georgia and abroad.
