Besarion Jgenti was a responsible secretary of the Writers’ Union in 1932-37, editor-in-chief of the screenplays department in 1937-42; director of the Litfond (“Literary Fund”, 1943-46), an executive director of the publishing house Zaria Vostoka (1946-54), secretary of the Georgian Writer’s Union (1958-76).
In 1964-76, Besarion Jgenti was appointed a Director of the Soviet Literature Department of the Shota Rustaveli State Institute of Georgian Literature. He was also reading lectures in the Tbilisi State University.
Besarion Jgenti began his literary work in 1922. He was an organizer and leader of the Futurist-lefelebi (“LEF-Futurists”) group.
Besarion Jgenti was awarded with many state prizes.
Hi is buried in Didube pantheon. One of Tbilisi’s streets is named after him.
