Competition We Read Rustaveli
Tbilisi Public School #24, National Parliamentary Library of Georgia, Rustvelology Research Center at Shota Rustaveli Institute of Georgian Literature, and Free Union of Georgian Teachers and Scientists are inviting the students and teachers of public and private schools of Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan to participate in the traditional competition.
The project We Read Rustaveli is being implemented for the ninth time, aiming to better acquaint the youth with the first-rate book, to develop global thinking and civic consciousness, to encourage creative potential, to form in the students a sensible attitude toward the poem The Knight in A Panther's Skin, to help them understand spiritual relationships, and to develop relations among the nations of the Caucasus.
The project has a new nomination, Academic Editions of the Poem, established in connection with the three hundredth anniversary of the first academic publication of The Knight in A Panther's Skin. Contestants are welcome to present, in a preferred language, selected episodes and stage adaptations of the poem as well as essays, sketches and verses expressing their attitude to the poem. They can participate in a quiz organized by the National Library's Division of Rare Editions. At the time of evaluation of the participants, special attention will be paid to the art of reading, elocution, Georgian language skill of non-Georgians, and acting skills.
Application deadline for the competition is 25 May 2012. Applications should include the following information: title and legal address of school, list of students and teachers involved in the project (including their phone numbers), titles of the selected episodes of the poem, information on what they are going to read - the original or translation, what they want - to participate in the quiz or to present mini compositions. After the registration, applicants will be instructed in how to solve a concrete task. Contestants will be given questionnaires prior to participation in the quiz. Final round of the competition will be held at Civic Education Reading Hall of the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia on 14 September 2012.
