XDI Was XNS

The underlying technology for XDI was developed in the early 1990s by OneName Corporation (www.onename.com) and was originally used for push technology. It later evolved into XNS (Extensible Name Service) governed by XNSORG, the XNS Public Trust Organization (www.xns.org). In 2002, XNSORG contributed XNS to OASIS, and the name was changed to XDI for the protocol and schema and XRI for the identifiers.
