finite set - a set with a finite number of elements. A non-empty set E is finite if it is equivalent to some natural number n; i.e., the elements of E can be put into one-to-one correspondence with the set {1, 2, 3, . . . , n}. The empty set ь is equivalent to {0} and is finite by definition. A set is finite if and only if it is not equivalent to a proper subset of itself. A set that is not finite is infinite. ;
