circulation system - A method of recording the loan of items from a library collection by linking data in the patron record to the item record for each item loaned. A circulation system provides the means of identifying items on loan to a specific patron, including those which are overdue, and enables circulation staff to place holds, recall items needed before the due date, and notify borrowers who have overdue items.
