National Parliamentary Library Reading Halls


The National Parliamentary Library is housed in seven buildings, three of which are of architectural significance. Eighteen reading halls located in those historical buildings serve the National Library users.

The Library items are accessible only onsite at the Library reading halls. Home loans are permitted at Wilhelm von Humboldt German Reading Hall.

Library collections and material are available only at the National Library reading halls.

The Library users are allowed to make copies of printed items or use the Library's book scanner. Please ask the librarian for assistance.

Copying of library materials is regulated by the Georgian Law on copyright and related rights.

Photocopying and copying of archival materials and rare editions are allowed in exceptional cases with the permission of authorized person.

Free access to the Internet using Wi-Fi technology is provided in every reading hall of the National Library.

The National Library reading halls are open every day 10:00-20:00, except for public holidays

Building I of the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia, former building of the Georgian Nobles’ Land Bank, is situated in the center of Tbilisi, near the National Museum and Freedom Square, on the corner of Nato Vachnadze Street and Lado Gudiashvili Street.

Dimitri Khipiani Reading Hall, Sergi Meskhi Periodicals Reading Hall, and Ivane Machabeli Scientific Hall, located in the Building I of the National Library, are currently closed due to ongoing reconstruction works.

The following reading halls serve the Library users:

Building II of the National Library located at the intersection of Lado Gudiashvili and Anton Purtseladze Streets, adjoins the Building I.

On the second floor, next to the Merab Mamardashvili Civil Education Reading Hall, the Library users may have the print material copied or scanned. Please ask the librarian for assistance.

Building III of the National Library is situated on the corner of Lado Gudiashvili Street and Purtseladze Street.

Since the Building III houses the Library Administration Offices of the National Library, it is commonly called the Administrative Building.

In the courtyard the visitors (Maro Makhashvili Garden) have the opportunity to relax and listen to desirable pieces through the mobile audio library.

Building VI of the National Library (former Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani Georgian State Book Chamber) is renamed after Vakhtang VI and houses the unique collection of Georgian printed items.
