The presentation of the second edition of the Arabic translation of The Knight in the Panther’s Skin, published in Damascus in 1984, will be held at the Exhibition Hall of the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia on 9 December at 18:00.
The second edition of the Arabic translation of The Knight in the Panther’s Skin was published in Egypt and its presentation was held at the 47th International Book Fair. The publishing of the book is the event of significant importance in terms of development of Georgian-Arabic cultural relations.
The Embassy of Georgia to Egypt and the Ministry of Culture of Egypt were actively engaged in the publication of the translation. A number of posts and reviews in the Arab press and Arab literary circles suggest the wide public interest in the poem which is natural taken into consideration the generosity and bravery of “Arab” characters of the poem.
The Arabic translation of the The Knight in the Panther’s Skin is a product of long-term cooperation of the Syrian writer Nizar Khalil and editor and expert at Arabic Literature Guram Chikovani.
On 9 December, the meeting with Guram Chikovani will be held at the National Library. Professor Guram Chikovani will hand to the National Library the copy of Arabic translation of The Knight in the Panther’s Skin published in Cairo and give a talk about the history of the translation and long-term creative cooperation with Nizar Khalil, the vocabulary of the poem, as well as the people, who contributed to the publication of the poem in Arabic in Syria and Egypt.
