Film Show at the National Library

The National Library Anglo-American Reading Hall arranges a show of the film Shine (1996, Australia) by Scott Hicks at the Auditorium of the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia on 27 April 2013 at 17:00.

 

It stars Armin Mueller-Stahl, Geoffrey Rush, Noah Taylor, Chris Haywood, Justin Braine, and Sonia Todd.  

The film tells the true story of David Helfgott's life, Australian pianist. He was Just 5 years old, when his father discovered musical talent and since then the child’s life has totally changed. At the age of 14, he was already a celebrity. Later due to his father’s despotic character, the artist suffered health problems and career difficulties.

 

 Adolescence full of hopes and disappointments, domestic violence in the childhood, first successes, strange teacher, and years spent at hospital, world recognition, love, faith, these are the topics the film concerns.   

Geoffrey Rush (leading role) was awarded the Academy Award for Best Actor . The degree to which the film's plot reflects the true story of Helfgott's life is disputed.

 

The film was  nominated also for Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Armin Mueller-Stahl), Best Director, Best Film Editing, Best Original Dramatic Score, Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay.
Geoffrey Rush was awarded not only the Academy Award for Best Actor, but also a BAFTA and Golden Globe Award for "Best Actor".

 

At present, David Helfgott leads active creative life and plays a small number of recitals in different countries.
