Levan Mosiashvili’s Solo Exhibition at the National Library
 18/04/2013

The solo exhibition by Levan Mosiashvili will open at the Exhibition Hall of the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia on 18 April 2013 at 17:00.

He has been working in France for 18 years and is considered as one of the most successful Georgian artists in Europe, which is proved by his solo exhibitions held in different prestigious galleries across the world. This is the artist’s first solo exhibition in Georgia.

Levan Mosiashvili was born on 30 August, 1971, Tbilisi. He created his first serious painting in 1993. Since then, painting has become his only profession. He has no academic art education, but this has never stopped his admirers from considering his works as comparable to those of Pirosmani, Chagall, Matisse, and Peynet. Levan Mosiashvili’s work can be divided into four distinct periods.

The land of his ancestors, Kakheti, became his first source of inspiration, and the daily life, joys and sorrows of Kakhetian peasants were the main topics of the period. The second period of his creativity is entirely dedicated to Tbilisi. His renditions of the city are unusual, even unique, both in terms of the theme and the technique used. In these ‘views of Tbilisi’ the artist illustrates historical cohabitation and strong relationship of people of different nationalities, once so typical of the city. For the short period, the artist was interested in ‘mosaic technique’. Europe had a profound impact on Mosiashvili’s art, his style and palette. First he fell in love with cubism. For the last two years, he has been interested in ‘philosophical abstraction’.

Apart from France, Mosiashvili’s solo exhibitions were held in Telavi (Georgia), Saint Petersburg (Russia), Damascus and Aleppo (Syria), Saaremaa (Estonia). In 2006, his solo exhibition organized by the international University of Economics in Ankara was opened by former President of Turkey Suleiman Demirel. In the same year, another solo exhibition was held in Ankara, this time at the Austrian diplomatic mission.

Levan Mosiashvili is the winner of various prestigious art contests. His works are held in private collections all over the world. ( Georgia, France, Russia, USA, Germany, Swiss, Italy, Japan, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Turkey, Belgium, United Kingdom, Brazil, Chile, Sweden, Norway, China). His works are on display in the National Museum in Prague (the Czech Republic), the central office of the Pentagon in Washington (USA), in the Directorate of the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moskow (Russia), and in a number of city halls and other government offices throughout France.

The exhibition will last until 25 April.
