National Library of Georgia Celebrates Librarian’s Day
 30/04/2026

April 30 marks Librarian’s Day in Georgia, a professional holiday established in 2003. To commemorate the occasion, the National Library of Georgia hosted its annual event, bringing together library staff and representatives from regional libraries across the country.

Konstantine Gamsakhurdia, General Director of the National Library, delivered a heartfelt congratulatory address to the attendees:

"Being a librarian is more than a profession; it is a mission to protect our culture, education, and national memory. In a world of rapid information, you serve as guides, helping society distinguish knowledge from noise. Today, libraries are no longer just book repositories—they are vibrant spaces for dialogue, innovation, and community development. We deeply value your tireless dedication to this high calling."

The event was also addressed by Vladimer Bozhadze, Member of the Parliament of Georgia, who expressed gratitude to the librarians and reaffirmed the government's commitment to addressing the challenges faced by municipal libraries.

Mirian Khositashvili, Deputy Director of the National Library, highlighted the ongoing transition of libraries into modern, multi-functional centers and noted that legislative refinements are being developed to further support the sector.

As part of the program, a documentary film dedicated to the 180th anniversary of the National Library of Georgia was screened for the guests.

The ceremony concluded with an awards presentation honoring individuals for their exceptional contributions to librarianship. The honorees were presented with Librarian Merit Badges, along with the latest literature published by the National Library and supported by the Ministry of Culture of Georgia
