Presentation of “Mnatobi” Digital Version at Writers’ House
 26/12/2013

Presentation of complete digital version of the journal “Mnatobi” will be held at Writers House of Georgia on 26 December 2013, at 18:00.

The journal “Mnatobi” was founded in 1924. Almost all the works by Soviet Georgian writers were published there. Covering economic, political and scientific issues, the journal reflected the beliefs and attitudes of writers of that period and revealed many young writers.

The journal is a chronicles of Georgian Soviet literature and its role in the development of Soviet-era Georgian culture is essential. No journal or newspaper in the history of Georgian writing lasted so long. In parallel with “Mnatobi”, numerous journals, newspapers, magazines and other types of print media were founded and disappeared.

The fact, that Georgian Emigrants kept the complete annual collections of “Mnatobi” in their families, proves the journals popularity. They received the journal via French and German second-hand bookseller.

Today it is hardly possible to find a private library in Georgia holding a full collection of “Mnatobi”. With the change of generations its rarity is increasing.

With the help of the National Library electronic recourses, the journal has been digitalized and placed on the digital Library “Iverieli”. The electronic version of “Mnatobi” is available at   www.dspace.nplg.gov.ge
