A solo exhibition of Christine Robakidze, a young artist, will open at the Exhibition hall of the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia on 28 April 2013 at 19:00.
Christine Robakidze’s artworks are divided into two series: ‘Couples’ and ‘Angels’. The first is about a woman and a man, as two halves of a whole, each one constantly longing for its own other half. While the second, ‘Angels’ is inspired by Sky Above Berlin, a film by Wim Wenders. In Christine’s artworks angels are not unapproachable distant shapeless creatures, but they represent the original image of a human being. The interview with Henry Miler inspired the artist:”I don't believe in evolution. I believe in devolution: that we have descended from a state resembling God. Maybe we were gods at one time, and now we're just in the state of manhood and womanhood, mortal creatures… But I don't think we came up from worms and caterpillars and fish life. I have met men who were like saints, though they weren't practicing a religion, and I've met devils, real devils in the flesh, you know. They both exist on this earth.”
Using mixed techniques, including paint rub technique on photo paper; Christine Robakidze made her artworks in oil, with tar etc.
The exhibition is a joint project of the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia and Kutaisi city hall Education, Culture, Cultural Heritage, Sport and Youth Affairs service aiming at familiarization and popularization of artworks by young artists to the broad public.
