 25/10/2019

On 24-26 October, the international conference Ethnocultural Diversity and Intercultural Communication was held in Georgia. The conference opened at Tbilisi Ivane Javakhishvili State University on 24 October and continued at the National Library on 25 October.

The international conference is organized by the Faculty of Humanities of Tbilisi State University, the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia, the Library Association of Georgia and the Association of Anthropologists of Georgia with the financial support of Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation.

The conference was attended by the General Director of the National Library Giorgi Kekelidze and the Deputy Director Mirian Khositashvili. According to the Deputy Director of the National Library, Mirian Khositashvili, the conference covers the issues of ethnic and religious minorities of the country, their situation, coexistence, relationship and future prospects of relations.

Scientists from Canada, Turkey, Germany, Poland, Finland, and Armenia also took part in the conference. The issue of intercultural communication is becoming increasingly important due to ongoing processes in the modern world (globalization, migration, conflict). Georgia is a historically unique country with its diversity, which has led to the establishment of traditional systems of peaceful coexistence and intercommunication channels and development of ethnographic realities and behavioral models.

Within the framework of the conference, Mirian Khositashvili, Deputy Director of the National Library, awarded Fahriye Bayram, Professor of Pamukkale University, and Kevin Tuite, Professor of Montreal University, for their valuable contribution to the study of Georgian culture with the National Library Medal.
