Exhibition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Soviet Occupation.

On February 25, with the support of the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia, the Institute for the Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), an exhibition titled "100 Years since Occupation" was opened in the Maro Makashvili Garden of the third building of the Library. The exhibition is also available online.

A century ago, on February 25, 1921, the 11th Army of Russia invaded the Democratic Republic of Georgia. All this was preceded by several weeks of selfless struggle to save Georgia, which continued after February 25. The unequal war claimed the lives of many people. The Russian occupiers violated the agreement and international obligations; The Red Army ended the country's three years of freedom and Georgia became part of the Soviet Russia for the following 70 years. Members of the legitimate government of the Democratic Republic of Georgia were forced to leave the country; Caring for the homeland and fighting for its liberation continued outside the borders.

The occupation of the Democratic Republic of Georgia by Soviet Russia was followed by political repression. Many people who fought for the freedom of country were arrested, deported or shot.

100 years have passed since then, Georgia is a free country, however, Russia is still trying to break the internationally recognized borders; 20% of the territories of Georgia are occupied by them.

The aim of the exhibition was to show the people fighting for freedom and the national spirit and honor the people who sacrificed for the idea of the independence of the country.
