Wednesday, October 27, at 1pm at the exhibition hall of the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia, by the initiative of the Christian Democratic Movement, presentation of books – "cultic monuments of Islam” and "Georgian Muslims in modern times” – will be held.
At the presentation, results of the research, on quite a number of issues concerning Muslim Georgians, will be introduced. The goal of the research was to observe on the spot the daily life of the Muslim Georgian community of western Georgia. Within the framework of the project, there has been studied the following matters: the history of Muslim Georgians, their relationship with other religious communities, life and culture, religious traditions and traditional customs, folklore, cultic and educational buildings and their architectural features, spiritual organization and religious educational system.
Research was conducted in all the populated areas in which there is a cultic building (197 different types of cultic and educational buildings are functioning in western Georgia). 42 cultic monuments (mostly wooden) of cultural-historical value and outstanding features of carpentry, painting and decoration, have been discovered during the fieldwork study.
Research material has been obtained by means of questionnaires, free conversations, problem-oriented biographical studies, interactive observation, and analysis of the documents being in the possession of the community.
Reference books concerning Islam in Georgia have been compiled and relevant articles written as a result of the research. There have also been published: the collective monograph Georgian Muslims in the Context of Modern Times, the album Islamic Cultic Monuments, the map Islamic Cultic and Educational Buildings in the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, the booklets Kvirike Mosque and Zoti Mosque.
Representatives of diplomatic corps, parliamentarians and members of academic society will be attending the presentation.
